It is with great sadness to let you all know that our State Mother, Anna Margaret Miller, 90, of Bridgewater, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at her home.

Margaret was born in Mt. Crawford on May 8, 1931. She lived near Burktown on a farm and moved to Bridgewater in 1987. She was a graduate of North River High School class of 1946, worked for Swan Uniforms, Metro Pants, and retired from Marshall's, and was a member of the Summit Church of the Brethren where she served as Chairman of Deacons for many years. Margaret was also a past-president of the Bridgewater Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Mother of Virginia Fire Fighters Association, and a past-president of Woodmen Life Lodge, and in 2019 she was Bridgewater Fire Company member of the year. She was known for her coconut cakes and macaroni & cheese.

Margaret is survived by cousins and caregivers, David and Elaine Miller. Also survived by Ben and Christy Miller and their children, Jordan and Madalyn, along with Rachel Miller and William Bonnet, and many close friends.

Elga Keith Propst “Betsy” Gaylor

Elga Keith Propst “Betsy” Gaylor, 94, of Bridgewater, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Bridgewater Retirement Community.

She was born in Brandywine, WV on April 4, 1927, and was the eldest daughter of the late Ember K. and Etha Mae (Pittsenbarger) Propst.

Betsy was a 1945 graduate of Franklin High School. She then embarked on long careers at McCroy’s and Roses Department Stores. She was a long time member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, where she helped create the weekly altar floral arrangements. Betsy was active in the Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Bridgewater Vol. Fire Dept Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed helping her neighbors and friends with her seamstress work.

She was united in marriage on June 8, 1952 to Calvin Connie Gaylor, who preceded her in death on February 14, 1995.

Betsy is survived by her children, Douglas Gaylor of Palmdale, CA, Steven Gaylor and wife Barbi of Richmond, and Pam Young and husband John of Rockingham; three sisters, Maxine Miller of Harrisonburg, Ruby Bolyard and husband Dave, of Augusta, GA, and Agnez Sanchez of San Clemente, CA; two brothers, Sheldon Propst and wife Bonnie of Bridgewater, and Garland Propst of Brandywine; two grandchildren, Bryce Aaron Young (Megan) and Kaitlyn Mae Clark (Grant), and great granddaughter Laikyn Young.

Christina Marie Moyers, 97, of Bridgewater, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at the Bridgewater Home.

She was born in McGaheysville, VA on December 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Herman Ellis and Lula Florence Bateman Michael. Lula Michael died in 1934, and subsequently, Christina was raised by her aunt, Mae Bell Bateman Michael, who married her father Herman Michael.

Christina is survived by sons, Daniel Harold Moyers, II and wife, Cindy, of Bridgewater, Michael Lynn Moyers of Mount Crawford; grandsons, Andrew D. Moyers and companion, Brandy Whitesell, Trevor J. Moyers and wife, Amy; granddaughter, Amber B. Depoy and husband, Christopher; great-granddaughters, Reagen Depoy and Allison Moyers; great-grandsons, Edward, Trevor, Zane, Ashton, Flecther, and Gavin Moyers; niece, Donna Lucas and husband, David, nephew, Douglas Breeden and companion, Debbie Wise.

Christina was raised on a farm in Rockingham County, and lived in the country all of her life. She graduated from Port Republic High School in 1940. On May 1, 1987, she was retired from the James Madison University Post Office, where she worked for 23 years. She was a member of the Bethlehem Brethren Church, the Women’s Missionary Society, the Bridgewater VFW, and the Bridgewater Fire Company Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and quilting and has quilted 50 or more by hand.
